Will Jim Harbaugh become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers?
It could be that the former NFL Coach of the Year may be about to return to the league after closing out a sensational season with the Michigan Wolverines.
With no less than seven teams across the NFL in need of a new head coach, there were always going to be names mentioned that caused a stir. Yet, few could have expected that it would be the Michigan Wolverines’s coach.
Jim Harbaugh could be LA Rams new coach
As expected, a large amount of chatter this week has been about the departure of the New England Patriots’ legendary head coach Bill Belichick, and of course, the man who was announced as his replacement, Jerod Mayo. Yet, it now appears that we’ve got another major talking point in the coaching department and that’s Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh. According to reports, Harbaugh is set to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers next week as the team looks to secure his services.
Harbaugh who is the younger brother of Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is coming off of a hugely successful campaign after leading the Wolverines to a national championship just this past Monday. As per reports, the 60-year-old has alluded to the idea that he could leave the collegiate game to take the reins in Los Angeles. Interestingly, previous reports have also suggested that Michigan is intent on keeping its coach. To that end, it is understood that the school offered Harbaugh a 10-year, $125 million contract with the expressed condition that he not entertain an NFL job this season.
So, will Jim Harbaugh join the Rams and is it the right move?
Understandably, there are a lot of factors in play here. Yet, if we go with what we know, the last time Harbaugh coached in the NFL was with the San Francisco 49ers where he spent four seasons. During that time he amassed a staggering 44-19-1 record. Indeed, in only his second season with the team in 2012, the 49ers went to the Super Bowl. Again, official details on Harbaugh’s future remain scarce, but it is understood that his preferred destination is the Chargers. It’s also been said that he is prepared to work within different power structures. For the moment all we can do is watch this space.
