Will the Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill play in Week 15 against the New York Jets?
The Dolphins and their fans are now sweating on the status of their star receiver. Will he play in the NFL’s Week 15? That question remains unanswered.
While he’s already broken records this season, it stands to reason that Super Bowl winner and his fans will be sorely disappointed by the prospect of his quest to become the first running back to cross 2000 yards in a single season being derailed.
Tyreek Hill suffered ankle injury against Titans
As if losing 27-28 to the Tennessee Titans wasn’t already bad enough, the Miami Dolphins now have to contend with the loss of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill who has been described as day-to-day by coach Mike McDaniel suffering an ankle injury during Monday night’s defeat. It was late in the first quarter when Hill went down and though he managed to return in the third quarter, it was clear that he was struggling. Despite the loss the Dolphins still lead the AFC East with a 9-4 record, but this as you can imagine is not good news.
How did Tyreek Hill get injured?
It was as mentioned before, late in the first quarter, when Hill was hit by Titans cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting behind the line of scrimmage. Indeed, it was the defensive back who inadvertently came down on Hill’s ankle, an unfortunate sequence of events for the MVP hopeful. Hill remained on the turf for a short period of time, but then rose to his feet on his own steam and made his way off the field. You can see the play below:
So, what do the Dolphins do now?
To be clear, there has been no official word on Hill’s status for the Week 15 game against the New York Jets, but the Dolphins are making the necessary adjustments just in case. According to head coach Mike McDaniel, he remains confident in Hill but there are contingency plans in place in the event that he’s unable to return in time. Speaking with the media, McDaniel stated that it’s “a little early to be that confident either way” before adding that “It was a painful ankle. Until he flat out tells me there’s no doubt he’s going to play, you always have to plan for everything.”
Understandably, this is a blow to both the team and Hill himself. Prior to Monday’s game he was on 1,481 yards, the most recorded by any player across 12 games in the Super Bowl era. That’s to say that at his present pace, Hill is on track to register 2,098 yards which would break the NFL’s single season record which was set by Calvin Johnson back in 2012 (1,964 yards). Up next for the Dolphins and hopefully Hill is of course a date with their division rivals, the New York Jets who are currently 5-8. For the moment we can only sit and wait.
