Athletes from all over the globe will be looking to make an impact in the French capital, but will North Korea compete in the sports event?

The countdown for the 2024 Olympic Games is getting to a close. 207 countries and more than 10,700 athletes will compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris, in what is considered to be the biggest sports event.

The Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, will include 329 tournaments in 32 sports. Paris will be the main host, but other 16 cities will hold different competitions.

The USA, China, Great Britain, and France are the favorites to win the most medals, with the Americans looking to finish in first place after being the successful nation in the Tokyo Olympics, followed by China and hosts Japan.

Is North Korea participating in the 2024 Olympic Games?

Three years ago, North Korea didn’t compete at the Tokyo Olympics. The reason for dropping out of the event was the concerns its athletes could contract coronavirus.

That decision had some consequences for the North Korean athletes, as they were banned from competing at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

However, things will be different now, as the North Korean delegation will be present in Paris. That means the Asian country will take part in the Summer Olympics for the first time since 2016 when they competed in the Rio Games, where they won two gold medals, in women’s weightlifting and men’s vault.

In what sports is North Korea competing at the Paris Olympic Games?

The North Korean Olympic delegation is already in Paris, as they flew to the French capital from Pyongyang on Saturday. The athletes were accompanied by North Korea’s sports minister, Kim Il Guk.

Guk admitted North Korea’s objective is to try to be more successful and win more medals in international sports competitions.

16 athletes will participate in the Paris Summer Olympics. They will compete in seven different sports: athletics, boxing, diving, gymnastics, judo, table tennis, and wrestling.
