The USWNT has found a new leader in the attacking line
The young striker has excelled in recent games for the United States and Olympic gold is her next target.
The United States Women’s National Team are going through a generational shift that is set to leave behind various world-class figures. Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe long stood out as the leaders of this group, but now several players seem to have raised their hands to take hold of the baton.
For many, Sophia Smith is the top star in this new wave of talent. However, it is actually Trinity Rodman has grabbed the spotlight in recent games. Rodman is direct and fearless in attack: inside the box she can twist and turn past opponents, while from outside she possesses a powerful long range shot which keeps opposition defenders on their toes.
What is Trinity Rodman’s record with the USWNT?
Trinity began to shine at the age of 10 and soon became one of the best players in the NWSL at the age of 21. His first season ended with 15 appearances and 7 goals, crowned with the Washington Spirit, he was named rookie of the year and U.S Soccer’s young player of the year.
In 2022, Rodman earned her first call-up to the national team and since then her goal tally has been on the rise. Just as the USWNT kicked off the Olympic Games, Trinity was on hand to score her squad’s first goal at Paris 2024. In 40 games for the USWNT, she has 7 goals and 8 assists.
Rodman was one of the most active players against Zambia: the attacker was able to break in behind on several occasions and her speed was key to win the battle on the wings and filter diagonal passes towards the penalty area. She also had the courage to try her luck from outside the box on more than one occasion, hitting the crossbar. The USWNT’s No. 5 scored in the 16th minute to open the scoring and begin the 3-0 rout of their first group opponent.
The USWNT’s next game takes place against Germany on July 28 (9 p.m. local / 3 p.m. ET). This game can be followed live on AS USA. The side led by Emma Hays will finish group play against Australia on July 31 (7 p.m. local / 1 p.m. ET), also at Stade de Marseille. Stream the Olympics live on fuboTV.
