The United States finished its artistic gymnastics participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles winning the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

With this silver medal, Biles can boast of having 11 medals in her Olympic Games record (seven gold, two silver, two bronze). What’s more, she equaled Věra Čáslavská as the second most decorated female gymnast in the Olympic Games, only behind Larisa Latynina, who has 18 medals.

Even the best make mistakes, and although Biles’s performance in the floor exercise was outstanding, getting a 14.133 score, the small details defined the race for first place with the Brazilian Rebecca Andrade, who took her first gold in the Paris Games with a 14.166 score. On the other hand, Chiles won her first-ever individual Olympic medal with some suspense; the USA athlete finished fifth initially (13.666). However, after a successful inquiry, her score rose to 13.766, displacing the Romanian Ana Barbosu from third place.

It is not a secret that one of Biles’s best events is the floor exercise. Her impressive performances on this apparatus made two exercises bear her name: The Biles, performed for the first time in 2013 when she was only 16, is a double back layout with a half twist, while the Biles II, a triple-double (two flips and three twists in a tucked position), was first realized by the gymnast in 2019.

What is Simone Biles’ Olympic record in the floor exercise?

Simone Biles’ first-ever Olympic Games were in Rio 2016. On August 7, 2016, she competed in the qualifiers round with the United States and obtained an overall score of 62.416; her floor exercise grade was 15.733, and she qualified for the event finals.

In the team finals, she even improved her floor exercise score to 15.800 and won her first gold Olympic medal. In the event finals, Biles demonstrated that there is always space to improve, and her score rose to 15.966, finishing first, while her teammate, Aly Raisman, scored 15.500 and finished second.

The story for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games would be different. Biles struggled during the qualifiers round, although she scored 14.133 in the floor exercise and qualified for the all-around finals. However, she withdrew from the team finals after completing the first rotation due to mental health issues. Biles also decided to refrain from participating in the all-around, floor exercise, vault, and uneven bars finals.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games were a redemption for the American athlete, who showed the world again why she is one of the best gymnasts ever. Biles scored 14.600 in the floor exercise, qualifying for the event finals. In the team finals, she was crucial for the United States to win the gold medal, and she obtained the best score among all gymnasts in the floor exercise rotation, with 14.666.
