Update:

The United States of America is set to host the Olympic Games for the first time since Atlanta had the honour in 1996.

In 2028, the City of Angels will be the setting for what is arguably the biggest event in the sporting calendar.

One of the stars of what’s set to be the home nation - Simone Biles - has won 3 gold medals at this Games this year, which are being held in France. The gymnast won gold at the team, all-around and vault events, and now the questions are already being raised as to whether she will continue in her role as one of the country’s top athletes.

What did Simone Biles say about her future?

Biles was asked about her career on Sunday, at a press conference. “Never say never”, she replied when quizzed on whether or not she would appear at LA28, “the home games is … the next Olympics is at home, so you just never know.

“But, I am getting really old!” she added with the typical Biles smile. If Biles were to compete at the Games in 2028, she would be 31-years-old.

Earlier in the week, Biles took to social media, criticising journalists for asking the ‘what happens next?’ questions in post-event interviews. “you guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics”, she posted on Twitter. Sorry, Biles, it seems you’re still going to get asked.

As for the 2024 Games, they’re not over. Biles still has two remaining finals to go in Paris: first up is the women’s balance beam final (Monday, August 5, starting at 6:36am ET / 3:36am PT.) before the women’s floor exercise final (Monday, August 5, starting at 8:20am ET / 5:20am PT.).
