What is the United States men’s basketball team’s record in pre-Olympic exhibition games?

The United States’s preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are well underway, with the USA Basketball Showcase in full flow. After defeating Canada in Las Vegas on Wednesday and Australia in Abu Dhabi on Monday, Steve Kerr’s star-studded roster, which boasts LeBron James, Steph Curry, Joel Embiid and Anthony Edwards among others, have three more pre-Olympic exhibition games, in which they will be looking to continue their fantastic record in such encounters.
USMBT’s superb record in pre-Olympic tours
Ahead of the 2024 Olympics, the United States is taking part in their ninth pre-Olympic exhibition tour, the first taking place before the 1992 Games that were held in Barcelona, Spain.
They played their 39th pre-Olympic game against Australia on Monday and recorded their 36th win. Incidentally, the most recent of their three defeats in 32 years came against the Aussies, who defeated the USA 91-83 in Las Vegas in July 2021, just before the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Who are the United States playing in the USA Basketball Showcase?
The USMBT are now scheduled to face Serbia, also in the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday (July 17), before finishing the tour in London against South Sudan (Saturday July 20) and Germany (Monday July 22).
The men’s basketball tournament at the 2024 Olympics will begin on Saturday July 27, with the gold medal match taking place on Saturday August 10. The USA will face Serbia, Puerto Rico and South Sudan in the first group phase.
How many times has the United States won the Olympic gold medal in men’s basketball?
The United States have won seven of the last eight men’s basketball tournaments at the Olympic Games, with Argentina triumphing in the other in Athens in 2004. All in all, they have taken gold in 16 of the 20 events played, with the Soviet Union (twice) and Yugoslavia the only other victors.
