Both preparing for their third appearance in the women’s Olympic soccer tournament, the two nations also faced each other in the round-robin phase in 2012 and 2016. The French were winners on both occasions, beating the Colombians 1-0 in London before romping to a 4-0 triumph in Rio.

While France’s best performance so far at the Games is their quarter-final finish in Brazil eight years ago, Colombia are yet to progress from the group stage.

Les Bleues and Las Cafeteras have been placed in Group A, together with New Zealand and defending Olympic champions Canada.
