OLYMPIC GAMES

When will Simone Biles compete in the 2024 Olympics?

At one point, it looked like Simone Biles’ struggles at the Tokyo Games was destined to be her final Olympic outing. The four-time goal medallist was forced to withdrawn from several events in 2021 after suffering with the ‘twisties’, the name given to a loss of spatial awareness that sometimes affects gymnasts.

She returned to claim a bronze medal on the beam in Tokyo, but then announced her intention to take a break from the sport to focus on her mental well-being.

Thankfully, Simone Biles returned to elite competition in June 2023 and now looks well-placed to add to her incredible tally of Olympic medals. She announced her arrival at the Olympics in 2016 at Rio de Janeiro, picking up four golds (Team, All-Around, Vault and Floor Exercise). In total she has seven Olympic medals and is ready to add to that record haul.

“I knew I wasn’t done after the performances in Tokyo,” Biles said at the US Olympic trials in June. “Getting back in the gym and trusting the process with [coaches Cecile and Laurent Landi], I knew I’d be back.”

I think with everything I’ve been through, I want to push the limits, I want to see how far I can go,” she said. “I want to see what I’m still capable of so once I step away from this sport, I can truly be happy with my career and say I gave it my all.”

What is Simone Biles schedule for the Olympics?

The most decorated athlete in the history of Olympic gymnastics will make her debut in the French capital this weekend, taking part in the women’s qualifying round on Sunday, July 28. Biles, along with the rest of Team USA, will compete in the second qualification subdivision.

Biles’ performance in qualification will decide which of the five individual finals she will advance to. In the 2016 Games in Rio, she reached all five individual finals.

The hotly-tipped Team USA is also expected to be one of the eight teams advancing through to the team event final, potentially another date to Biles’ busy Olympic schedule.

After the disappointment of Tokyo it wasn’t clear if Simone Biles would ever make it to another Olympic Games. This summer she becomes the oldest female gymnast in 72 years to represent Team USA at the Olympics. The record-breaking Texan has the chance to further embellish her reputation as the greatest gymnast of all time.
