The women’s golf tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris took a severe twist on Thursday as first-round leader Céline Boutier shot a four-over par 76 to drop from the top of the leaderboard and into a tie for sixth at Le Golf National.

The French golfer held a three-shot lead after an opening 65 but posted one of the worst rounds of the day 24 hours later, allowing a number of players to leapfrog her.

Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux is the new name at the top on -8 after following up a first-round 70 with a 66 on Thursday. She leads by one from Ruoning Yin of China, whose 65 was the lowest score of round two, with New Zealand’s Lydia Ko currently in the bronze medal position two shots further back.
