The Boston Marathon will feature some world class competition as men’s record holder Eliud Kipchoge returns to the US for the first time since he won the 2014 Chicago Marathon. He aims for a course record in his quest to win all six World Marathon Majors.

The women’s side of the event will feature Amane Beriso and current world champion Gotytom Gebreslase among the nine runners who have all posted sub-2:20 times.

When does the Boston Marathon start?

The first division is the men’s wheelchair field, followed by the women’s wheelchair division, then the men’s professionals and the women’s professionals. Here are the starting times

  • Men’s wheelchair: 9:02 a.m. ET, 6:02 a.m. PT
  • Women’s wheelchair: 9:05 a.m. ET, 6:05 a.m. PT
  • Men’s professional: 9:37 a.m. ET, 6:37 a.m. PT
  • Women’s professional: 9:47 a.m. ET, 6:47 a.m. PT

How to watch the Boston Marathon

The 2023 Boston Marathon will be broadcast locally on WCVB Channel 5. Live national coverage will be featured on ESPN.

What is the route of the Boston Marathon?

The world’s oldest annual marathon begins in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, ending in downtown Boston on Boylston Street across from the Boston Public Library.
