Team Europe got off to a fantastic start against Team USA on day 1 of the Ryder Cup: here’s how things look for day 2.
Nobody does golf like the Ryder Cup and day one of the 2023 tournament at the Marco Simone Club did not disappoint. With the competition up and running, it quickly became apparent in the collective hive mind of the golf fans’ world that this really is the best tournament in the sport. Well, unless you’re Team USA.
Team Europe got off to a flying start as they opened the day with a 4-0 thrashing and it did not get any better: McIlroy, Fleetwood and Rahm were all in fantastic form, with the latter producing a simply outrageous put from 30 feet for an eagle to tie the third match.
Despite having twenty points to go on day two, the American side need to tie their shoelaces and put together what would be one of the greatest Ryder Cup comebacks in history.

How does the Ryder Cup scoring work?
The Ryder Cup has a total of 28 matches played, all over 18 holes. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, and matches are either 1vs1 (singles) or 2vs2 (foursome/fourballs). If the two teams are tied with 14 points each at the end of the tournament, the trophy remains with the team that won it last time. Ties after 18 holes award half a point to each player.
