After a complete disaster this morning in the foursome matches in which Europe blanked Team USA 4 - 0, the Americans tried to make things interesting, but failed miserably. Things didn’t get much better in the afternoon. Team USA was unable to win a match all day Friday, but squeezed out 1.5 points.

Zach Johnson’s morning groups have been analyzed, questioned and criticized, but it looked like Luke Donald let the US captain off the hook by putting out some of his rookies and not the 8 beasts who annihilated the Americans in the morning. The Americans didn’t find the magic they needed Friday afternoon. Missed fairways and putts made it impossible for the Americans to battle back. Zach Johnson is going to put out his best players tomorrow. Not only will he have to find excellent pairings that work, but he’ll need to find a way to motivate a team who got destroyed by Europe on Friday.

We are all looking forward to see what happens in the Saturday morning matches. Luke Donald is putting out another very strong team. The US is going to have to react and start to play some team golf. They need to find a way to play together and not let the European team pull away.

The Saturday morning foursome pairings have been announced so let’s take a look and do some armchair analysis.
