2023 US Open: Who plays today August 29? Match times for Alcaraz, Sabalenka, Pegula...
After an opening round full of action, tennis fans will be able to enjoy another day of the best tennis at the US Open.
The opening day at the US Open started with some great games that left some of the favorites out of the competition earlier than expected.
The American J.J. Wolf, a NextGen rising star, was eliminated by Zhizhen Zhang in a five-set battle, while Holger Rune, who was expected to go far in the tournament, was outpowered by Roberto Carballés Baena.
Another US representative, the heavy-hitter Brandon Nakashima, was surprised by Laslo Djere, who got into the second round quite comfortably, as he defeated his opponent in three sets. However, the California native Mackenzie McDonald proved too strong for Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is living his worst season as a professional.
In the women’s category, no major upsets were recorded, with Sloane Stephens losing to the consistent Beatriz Haddad Maia, while Bernarda Pera eliminated world No. 16 Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets.
Who’s playing today in the US Open?
Some of the best players will make their debut in the 2023 US Open. The world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and current tournament champion will play against Dominik Koepfer, while Jessica Pegula will take on the talented Camila Giorgi in the first round.
The Russian Daniil Medvedev wants to win his second major and he will have a good chance in New York on a surface he enjoys playing. He will face the Hungarian Attila Balazs in the first round.
Can Venus Williams turn back the clock and defeat Greet Minnen? That will also be one of the main attractions of the day, as the older of the Williams sisters, 43, will be looking to advance to the second round.
Aryna Sabalenka will also be making her debut this year at the US Open, playing against Maryna Zanevska.
