Mixed martial arts has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, turning its biggest stars into some of the highest-paid athletes in combat sports alongside elite boxers. Much of that growth has been driven by Conor McGregor, the UFC icon who returns to the Octagon this Saturday for the first time in five years.

UFC 329 features a stacked card to accompany McGregor’s comeback. Benoît Saint Denis and Paddy Pimblett headline the co-main event before the Irishman takes on Hawaii’s Max Holloway in Las Vegas. Fans in the United States can watch the event with a subscription to Paramount+ and UFC Pass, replacing the traditional pay-per-view model. The card features 14 fights, with the prelims beginning at 5 p.m. ET and the main card concluding at around midnight ET. Not every fighter, however, takes home the same payday.

How much will McGregor and Max Holloway earn?

The UFC generally operates with three broad pay tiers: low, mid and high. Fighters in the lowest tier typically earn between $10,000 and $30,000 per bout, while the biggest stars can make anywhere from $500,000 to $3 million for a single fight.

McGregor falls firmly into the highest category as one of the biggest names in UFC history, while Holloway is also expected to receive one of the largest purses on the card as he looks to avenge a previous defeat.

Base purses are not fixed, however. A fighter’s popularity, drawing power and negotiating leverage all play a major role in determining how much they earn.

In addition to their contracted purses, fighters can also receive performance bonuses during each event, including Fight of the Night, Performance of the Night and Finish of the Night, each worth around $25,000.

At UFC 328, for example, Jim Miller and Yaroslav Amosov each earned $100,000 for Performance of the Night, while Joshua Van and Tatsuro Taira split Fight of the Night honors with $100,000 bonuses. King Green, Ateba Gautier, Grant Dawson and Baisangur Susurkaev also received $25,000 apiece for their respective finishes.
