The man of the day was Joel Dahmen. The Netflix star from the ‘Full Swing’ documentary missed a 4-foot putt on 18 that allowed 17 fellow competitors to continue on Saturday and Sunday. If the journeyman had made that putt, he would have gone to 3-under par and would have rounded out the field at 65 players for the weekend. By missing, he stayed at 2-under par, which allowed him to make the cut and 17 other guys too.
.@Joel_Dahmen had this for birdie at final hole Friday @SonyOpenHawaii (par-5 ninth)

Entered hole -2 (T65) … if made birdie, he would move cut line to -3
He makes par to post -2 total
Dahmen will make cut, as will the rest at -2 pic.twitter.com/leiV4NDMHj
Dahmen, a fan favorite, is now going to be owed big time by the 17 players who made it into the weekend. There’s no evidence he missed the putt on purpose, but knowing Joel (as if feels like we do after watching him in the Netlix series) nobody would put it past him that his trusty caddy Geno Bonnalie, who was also a big part of episode 4 of ‘Full Swing’, might have tipped off Dahmen. We’ll probably never know for sure, but Joel is going to get some free beers and dinners from 17 happy golfers who continue playing this weekend.
Thank you @Joel_Dahmen. Par on the last hole to keep the cut at -2… I owe you beers next time I see you. I take back every bad thing I said about you 😂
