Messi buys Spanish soccer club

Thursday’s football transfer market has delivered a move of extraordinary significance. Leo Messi has completed the purchase of UE Cornellà, as confirmed in an official statement. The Argentine star has acquired full ownership of the Catalan club, which currently competes in Group V of the Tercera RFEF, the fourth tier of Spanish football, and remains in contention for promotion.

Founded in 1951, UE Cornellà currently sit third in their Tercera División group, five points behind leaders Manresa. With a playoff place already secured, the club is aiming to achieve promotion. Messi’s objective is to guide Cornellà to professional status through a structured and well-planned investment strategy.

Messi joins a growing trend of footballers investing in club ownership. Recent examples include Cristiano Ronaldo, who has taken a stake in Almería, and Thibaut Courtois, who has invested in Le Mans. They are part of a broader movement that also features Kylian Mbappé (S.M. Caen), Luka Modrić (Swansea), Héctor Bellerín (Forest Green Rovers), Gerard Piqué (FC Andorra), N’Golo Kanté (Royal Excelsior Virton), Sadio Mané (Bourges Foot 18), David Beckham (Inter Miami), and César Azpilicueta (Hashtag United).
