Known as “The Greatest Show on Grass,” the PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open is a firm fan favorite. Attendance tends to hover around half a million people over the five-day event, the biggest crowd in all of golf.

The proximity of Arizona State University guarantees a sizeable student population in the crowd, congregating primarily around the 16th hole, where a 20,000-seat grandstand makes for one big party.

Now in its 90th year, the Phoenix Open has seen its fortunes swing from poor attendance in the 1930s to a solid, if subdued, attendance in the 1960s. From 1971 onward, the tournament began to attract bigger names. Since 1973, the Phoenix Open has been played on Super Bowl weekend, adding the final touches to the carnival atmosphere that surrounds it.

Playing at TPC Scottsdale

Whilst general admission tickets to the Phoenix Open are available during the competition for $75-100, playing on the course in Scottsdale is a different matter.

For any would-be players anxious to test themselves at Arizona’s most celebrated course, there are two lines of opportunity with golfers being able to apply for an annual membership or a daily fee.

24 hours of golf on the Players Stadium Course has two different rates depending on the time of year. From September-May, the default fee starts at $650 per player, this drops to $450 per player during June-August.

For those planning on playing more regularly at the TPC, an annual pass is available and these start from: $4,500 per individual with a couple rate of $7,000 and additional family member able to play for an additional annual fee of $2,500.
