Fresh off his victory at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz was all smiles as he shared his thoughts courtside after defeating American Taylor Fritz in today’s final.

First trip to Tokyo

It’s an absolute pleasure to play here in Tokyo, in front of these amazing Japanese fans,” Alcaraz said. “I’ve enjoyed every second out on this court—except for the five minutes I spent on the ground after twisting my ankle,” he joked. “That’s what I’ll take away from this tournament. I’m really proud of the level I played at. The week didn’t start well because of the injury, but the way I bounced back and played such great tennis makes me incredibly happy. First time in Tokyo, first title—I hope it’s not the last. I’m going to soak in this moment.”

The 22-year-old from Murcia is having a memorable year, and he knows it. “This has been my best season by far—no doubt,” he continued. “Eight titles, ten finals... it shows how hard I’ve worked to be here and to reach the goals I set at the start of the year. It didn’t begin wellI struggled mentally and emotionally. Looking back now, I’m proud of how I responded and of the people who helped me get to this point. There are still a few tournaments left, but I’m feeling really satisfied.”

Special mention for the physio

During the trophy ceremony, Alcaraz took a moment to show his gratitude. “First of all, I want to congratulate Taylor on a great final. You’ve done an amazing job and shown why you’re one of the top players. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season,” he said. “To my team—what can I say? Thank you for everything. I’ve always felt lucky to have you by my side. Special thanks to Juanjo Moreno, my physio, for helping me play this tournament despite the ankle injury. I’m so grateful to all of you.”

He closed with heartfelt thanks to the Tokyo crowd: “Thank you for making me feel at home during my first time here. I appreciate all the work that went into bringing me here, and I hope to come back next year. The support has been incredible—thank you so much, everyone.”
