Aleksandre Topuria signs up with UFC

The Spanish-Georgian confirmed on social media that he is now part of the largest MMA company in the world.

I want to let you know that I have officially signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship,” Aleksandre Topuria shared on his Instagram account on Thursday. The Spanish-Georgian has thus confirmed his signing with the world’s largest mixed martial arts company and the start of his path to the top of the sport.

The 28-year-old, born to Georgian parents but resident in Spain, added: “As many of you know, my personal goal and challenge for many years was to see my brother [Ilia] put on the world champion belt. I positioned myself as his coach and thank God, that goal was achieved. I am very proud and grateful for what my brother did and now that he will be defending his title, of course I will be right behind him.

“I would also like to inform you that I have signed a contract with Ultimate Fighting Championship. I’d like to thank everyone who has been part of this journey - those who are in view and those who work behind the scenes”.

Aleksandre was in Ilia Topuria’s corner from the beginning, and was a key and fundamental piece when it came to proclaiming himself champion in February, when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in the second round. A path to success that they lived together and made hand in hand, just as they will now do the other way around.

The arrival of the Conquistador to the UFC was a matter of time. His skills in the cage were in the spotlight to enter the company, and his time has come. “Likewise, in my mind and heart, the desire to fight on the front line has never faded, that’s why I have never stopped doing it, but this time it will be in the biggest league in the world,” Aleksandre concluded. He still doesn’t have a date or opponent for his debut. The Topuria legacy promises to leave a mark, as it is already doing.
