Apple TV agrees huge new deal to show Formula 1: How much will it cost?
As interest in F1 in the United States continues to grow, Apple has signed a five-year deal for the exclusive rights to Formula 1.
Apple TV has agreed a huge five-year deal to become the exclusive broadcaster of Formula 1 in the United States, taking over from ESPN.
The deal was announced on Friday and will begin in 2026. The five-year deal is worth a reported $160 million per year as part of a growing commercial partnership between F1 and Apple.
Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said: “We [Apple and F1] are no strangers to each other, having spent the past three years working together to create F1 The Movie, which has already proven to be a huge hit around the world.
“We have a shared vision to bring this amazing sport to our fans in the U.S. and entice new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content, and a year-round approach to keep them hooked.”
Apple’s senior vice-president of services Eddy Cue said: “We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Formula 1 and offer Apple TV subscribers in the U.S. front row access to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing sports on the planet.”
The news was announced as the Formula 1 circuit arrives in Austin, Texas this weekend for the United States Grand Prix. The Circuit of the Americas will host the Round 19 race. More than 400,000 fans are expected to attend across the weekend, making it one of the biggest events of the year on the F1 calendar.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen is looking for a fifth championship this season but he trails Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in the standings. If he is to overtake the two McLaren drivers, Verstappen needs a big performance in sweltering conditions in Austin.
