Are Ryan García and Teófimo López building up to a fight?

Ryan García shocked the world with a stunning majority decision win over Devin Haney, in a bout that saw Haney on the canvas three times. King Ry has plans to move up in weight, but now WBO Super Lightweight champ Teófimo López has called him out.

López is keen to make negotiations as easy as possible, proposing that it be fought at a catchweight instead of the super lightweight 140 pound limit.

“I spoke to Top Rank about how I wanted this to be planned. We told Ryan and his team that we can do something in September or December. It doesn’t have to be in my weight class. It can be a catchweight so that way we don’t have any problems moving forward.”

Could this fight really be made?

Before Ryan García’s fight against Devin Haney, Teófimo was actually considered as a potential rival. SInce the win, however, García has moved on, speaking about possible bouts with Sebastián Fundora, Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, or even a rematch with Gervonta Davis, who handed King Ry his only career loss.

Questionable wins against Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin, plus his loss to George Kambosos have taken some of the shine off of Teófimo López’s career, but at 20-1 and the reigning WBO Super Lightweight champion, he is still a desirable foe.
