Coco Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, has reached the semifinals at Melbourne Park for the first time in her career and is hoping to make it into the final. In her next match, she will face Aryna Sabalenka in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament quarterfinals. The match takes place on Thursday 25 January and will start at 3:30 a.m. ET (that’s Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. PT).

Coco put in a solid performance in the quarterfinals, defeating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2. Gauff winning 59% of her first serve points and winning 59 service points.

Gauff is currently on a winning streak of ten matches and has remained undefeated in 2024. She has also won her 12th consecutive match at the Majors, dating back to her title-winning run at last year’s US Open. The American teenager will now face the first seeded player of her run in Australia, with Sabalenka seeded two and Gauff is seeded four.

Aryna Sabalenka, Belarussia

Sabalenka has dispatched all of her opponents so far in straight sets, playing dominant tennis in Melbourne. She made light work of number nine seed Barbora Krejčíková. The Czech could only manage five sets over the entire quarterfinal.

It is absolutely without question that Sabalenka is on a historic run, but for as much as Gauff will have her hands full, so too will Sabalenka. These two have played six times previously in their careers, with the American player winning four and Sabalenka winning two.
