Basketball stars back Florentino: “The best president in the world”
Doncic, Causeur and Poirier, Madrid legends, showed their preference for the club’s presidential election next Sunday, June 7.
Real Madrid will hold its presidential election on Sunday, June 7, a vote that will determine who leads one of the world’s most powerful sports institutions through 2030. Club members will choose between Florentino Pérez, the long‑time incumbent, and challenger Enrique Riquelme.
And ahead of this pivotal moment, several iconic players from the club’s basketball section have publicly voiced their support for Pérez — a rare show of unity from some of the most recognizable names to ever wear the white jersey.
Doncic, Causeur and Poirier go public with their support
Three major figures from Real Madrid’s basketball section — Luka Doncic, Fabien Causeur, and Vincent Poirier — have taken to social media to endorse Pérez’s candidacy.
Fabien Causeur wrote on X:“You’re the best president in the world, we all know it.” The French guard left Madrid in 2024 after seven seasons and 14 titles, including two EuroLeague championships.
Vincent Poirier reposted the campaign video of the man who presided over his four‑year stint at the club (2020–2024). During that time, Poirier won one EuroLeague, two Spanish league titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Super Cups before moving to Anadolu Efes.
Luka Doncic used his Instagram Stories to send a personal message:“Thank you for the love and respect all these years. All my support, presi. ¡Hala Madrid!” The current Los Angeles Lakers star shared the message alongside a photo with Pérez taken after winning the 2018 EuroLeague Final Four in Belgrade.
