Mexican boxing superstar Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) is set to face off against Cuban fighter William Scull (23-0-0, 9 KOs) on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.

Canelo heads into this highly anticipated bout fresh off a unanimous decision victory against Puerto Rican contender Edgar Berlanga back in September.

Which belt does Canelo want to reclaim?

In this upcoming showdown, Álvarez aims to reclaim the IBF super middleweight title, which was stripped from him due to his failure to meet mandatory fight requirements. This fight presents a critical opportunity for Canelo to assert his dominance and reestablish himself as the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Canelo took some time to discuss his historic agreement with Turki Al-Sheikh, which includes four fights three in Saudi Arabia and one in Las Vegas, Nevada. Speaking with the Mexican media outlet TV Azteca, he said:

I went to London to talk with Turki Al-Sheikh... he had other intentions, he wanted just one fight; we told him that if it was for one fight, we weren’t interested (they finally agreed on four fights),” he noted.

Canelo Álvarez keen to fight in London

This year, he will have his first fight in Riyadh, return to Las Vegas in September, and then have two fights in Saudi Arabia in 2026. He also emphasized the importance of fighting in a new location and expressed his interest in a fight in London.

Canelo revealed, “I’ve always been very intrigued by the possibility of fighting in London, and now in Saudi Arabia.”

This expansion into new territories signifies an exciting chapter in Canelo’s illustrious career, bringing his talent to a wider global audience. The prospect of these high-stakes bouts in diverse locations promises to add even more excitement to the boxing world.
