Canelo Álvarez is worried about Jaime Munguía
The undisputed 168-pound champion says that Jaime Munguia is a great fighter, hungry to shine on the world boxing stage and that makes him a dangerous man.
Undisputed Super Middleweight champioin Saúl Canelo Álvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) is just days away from a clash with Jaime Munguía (43-0, 34 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. On May 4, two heavy handed Mexican punchers will go to war and somebody is almost certain to get knocked out.
In an interview with Miami-based Spanish sports network TUDN, Canelo said that he is worried about Munguia’s punching power, pointing out that Munguia is a fighter who is hungry to shine on the world stage in boxing and that makes him a dangerous man.
“He is a very hungry fighter who throws a lot of punches, a strong fighter who is hungry, and I think that makes him a dangerous fighter who is going to leave everything in the ring. Of course It worries me.”
Of the 43 fights that Munguía has won, 34 have been by knockout. His last fight was against John Ryder for the WBC Silver super middleweight title, and the hard-punching man from Tijuana stopped Ryder in the ninth round. The British Ryder is as durable a fighter as they come and Munguia still managed to send him to the canvas four times, once in the second round, once in the fourth and twice in the ninth.
When was Canelo Álvarez’s last knock out?
You have to go back to 2021 to see the last fight that Canelo won by knockout. On that occasion, the Mexican defended his undisputed championship at the MGM Grand against another durable Brit in Billy Joe Sanders, getting the stoppage in the eleventh round after flooring Saunders twice.
