Canelo Álvarez steps into the ring once again, this time to face Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas on September 14. With his four-division championship pedigree, Canelo (61-2-2) is a man on a mission. He’s dominated the super middleweight division, becoming the undisputed champion in just 11 months. Now, Berlanga, a brash young contender, looks to test his mettle against the Mexican icon in the biggest fight of his career. The fight will air on DAZN and Prime Video.

Berlanga (22-0), known for his knockout power, has 17 finishes under his belt. “I’m the type of fighter who comes to fight,” Berlanga says. He’s determined to carve out his own name in the sport, but Canelo isn’t fazed. “He needs 20 of him to give me any problems,” Canelo says with cold certainty. For the veteran, this fight is just another day at the office.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. The undercard is packed with battles that could easily headline other events. From former champions to rising stars, here’s the full rundown of the night’s action.

Erislandy Lara vs. Danny Garcia

The tastiest of the undercard matchups is Erislandy Lara defending his WBA middleweight title against Danny Garcia. This bout, perhaps worth the price of admission alone, sees two veterans who’ve fought the best in the business. Lara (30-3-3), a two-division champ, and former Canelo opponent, is known for his precision and tactical approach. Garcia (37-3) brings his own impressive resume as a former lineal super lightweight and WBC welterweight champion. Both have tasted gold and glory, and though both are coming off long layoffs, their experience in a combined 24 world title fights guarantees fireworks.

Caleb Plant vs. Trevor McCumby

Caleb Plant, once a super middleweight king, looks to reclaim his place at the top as he faces unbeaten Trevor McCumby for the interim WBA super middleweight title. Plant (22-2) is coming off a tough loss to David Benavidez in a grueling battle for interim gold earlier this year. McCumby (28-0), while undefeated, is a bit of a mystery, having taken nearly five years off from the sport before his recent return. This clash of styles - a seasoned Plant versus the power of McCumby - will be a fascinating contest.

Rolando Romero vs. Manuel Jaimes

Rolando “Rolly” Romero is always good for drama, both in and out of the ring. He’s facing Manuel Jaimes in a super lightweight bout that promises action. Romero (15-2) is coming off a controversial win over Ismael Barroso, a fight many feel the referee stopped too early. Jaimes (16-1-1), a Californian with 11 knockouts, is hungry for an upset, riding a four-fight win streak into this contest.

Stephen Fulton vs. Carlos Castro

Stephen “Cool Boy” Fulton takes on Carlos Castro in a featherweight showdown. Fulton (21-1) is in unfamiliar territory after losing his super bantamweight titles to Naoya Inoue earlier this year. Now competing at a new weight, he’s looking to rebuild his momentum. Castro (30-2), with 14 knockouts to his name, is also on the comeback trail after a couple of setbacks. Both fighters need a win here to reestablish themselves as contenders.

Roiman Villa vs. Ricardo Salas

Roiman Villa (26-2) takes on Ricardo Salas (19-2-2) in a welterweight bout that could fly under the radar but has the potential to be a sleeper hit. Villa is coming off a loss to Jaron Ennis for the interim IBF welterweight title, but his knockout record speaks for itself. Salas, making his U.S. debut, hasn’t lost since 2021 and has 14 KOs of his own. Expect power punches in this one.

Jonathan Lopez vs. Richard Medina

Rounding out the card is a super featherweight bout between Jonathan Lopez (16-0) and Richard Medina (15-2). Lopez, a former standout with Team USA, is undefeated and eager to keep his perfect record intact. Medina, after suffering his first career loss in 2022, has bounced back with a couple of solid wins but stumbled in his last outing. Both fighters are young and hungry, making this an intriguing opener to the event.

The stage is set for a night of high-stakes boxing, with Canelo looking to defend his throne and the undercard fighters ready to make their mark. Whether it’s the championship clash between Lara and Garcia or Plant’s quest for redemption, there’s plenty of drama to unfold long before the main event.
