Canelo Álvarez’s rapid fall from grace continues after loss to Terence Crawford
Canelo falls out of The Ring’s pound for pound Top 10 for the first time in years after Devin Haney jumps to No. 10.

For the first time since 2018, Canelo Alvarez is no longer in The Ring magazine’s pound for pound Top 10. The Mexican star was pushed out after his September loss to Terence Crawford.
Canelo no longer among boxing elite
Alvarez’s fall continues a steady decline that began with that defeat to Crawford. Not since 2018, when he briefly exited the list after testing positive for clenbuterol, had Canelo been absent from the elite group that defines the sport’s current best.

Devin Haney’s victory to claim the WBO welterweight title is what finally knocked Alvarez from the rankings. Haney took over the No. 10 spot, officially ending an era Canelo had largely controlled.
“I like Haney replacing Canelo at No. 10. I would not argue against Devin Haney getting back into the pound for pound picture and landing at No. 10,” several Ring panelists said when explaining the switch.
Canelo had been a mainstay on the list since April 2013 after defeating Austin Trout. The only previous interruption was that six month absence in 2018 following his positive clenbuterol test.
The man to watch: Bam Rodriguez rockets to No. 4
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez made the biggest leap of the new update. He climbed to No. 4 after a dominant 10th round knockout of Fernando “Puma” Martinez on Saturday in Saudi Arabia, a performance that impressed The Ring’s voters.
“I am all for moving Bam up two spots to No. 4. This kid is a throwback and always delivers,” Tom Gray said. “Martinez had only been dropped once in his career and came in as an undefeated world champion. Bam smoked him with a single counter.”
“Jesse Rodriguez was really impressive against Fernando Martinez. I would move him up one spot,” added fellow panelist Anson Wainwright.
