Canelo Alvarez’s trainer says “2023 will be huge”

Eddie Reynoso believes his boxer, Canelo Álvarez, will accomplish great things this year, despite the doubts arising after the Dmitry Bivol fight.

2023 is going to be Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez’s year. This is what his trainer, Eddie Reynoso, said about the Mexican superstar ahead of his scheduled fight against John Ryder in May and the expected and highly-anticipated rematch with Dmitry Bivol, likely to happen in September.

Although many fans want Canelo to stay active and fight three times this year, being a potential third clash against the Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez winner, Álvarez may decide not to go wild due to his recent left wrist injury.

“We’re not going to let down, we’re not going to retire (…) We’re going to return with all four belts that he came with,” Reynoso said during the San Diego kick-off presser with Ryder.

This is going to be a huge 2023. He’s going to go up against many challenges this year in his career, and we’re excited for what’s to come this year”, he added.

Canelo is expected to successfully defend his undisputed super middleweight championship against the Brit in Guadalajara. A fight that has been criticized by boxing analysts and fans, as they don’t consider Ryder a top fighter.

They believe the real challenge for the Mexican warrior will be the undefeated Bivol, who manages to come out on top in their first fight via unanimous decision.

While the Russian fighter is seen as Canelo’s main menace, especially at 175 lbs, the names of David Benavidez and Jermell Charlo come out as possible mega bouts for the end of 2023 if Canelo finally chooses to go big and get into the ring three times and face two top fighters.
