Crawford laughs off Topuria’s challenge: “That guy must be drunk”

A few days ago, Terence Crawford and Ilia Topuria crossed paths, shook hands, and the Spanish-Georgian fighter shared a photo on his social media. Alongside it, he threw out a question: “Who would win in a boxing match?” His answer was crystal clear. “I put him to sleep on the first contact,” wrote El Matador.

During a press conference for his upcoming fight with Canelo Álvarez, Crawford laughed off the UFC double champion’s comment.

“That guy’s drunk,” Bud said with a grin when told that Topuria claimed he would knock him out in the first round of a hypothetical boxing bout.

Topuria has sharp boxing skills – one of his strongest weapons inside the cage despite being a jiu-jitsu black belt with a dangerous ground game. He has already revealed his intention to make his boxing debut and even mentioned Canelo as one of the opponents he would like to face.

“Many MMA guys drink a lot, so he probably had a drink that day,” Crawford added, smiling from ear to ear, clearly taking it all in good humor. The four-division world champion (lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight) will jump two weight classes this weekend to face Canelo for the undisputed super middleweight title in Las Vegas. Who knows – maybe one day, Crawford or the Mexican star could end up as Topuria’s first opponent in the boxing ring.
