Crawford only focused on Canelo: what did ‘Bud’ say?
The WBA junior middleweight champion is only thinking of fighting the Mexican next, according to Turki Alalshikh.
Terence Crawford is making history in boxing, but he seems hungry enough to keep accomplishing goals in the sweet science.
The American recently defeated Israil Madrimov via unanimous decision, becoming a four-weight world champion, but he hasn’t forgotten the idea of trying to take Canelo Alvarez’s all belts at super middleweight.
While many believe Crawford shouldn’t keep going up in weight, as he struggled at times against Madrimov, the fighter is confident he could put the Mexican in trouble and shock the world.
What did Crawford tell Turki Alalshikh about the Canelo fight?
Going from 154 to 168 lbs is a big challenge for any fighter, but for Crawford, putting his body to the limit again could harm his performance.
It was rumored the Omaha native could take on Vergil Ortiz Jr. next, as the Texas-bred fighter defeated Serhii Bohachuk last weekend, but the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Alalshikh, revealed Crawford is only thinking about a fight with Alvarez.
“I don’t think Crawford will fight anyone except Canelo”, Alalshikh said in his most recent interview.
Although a Crawford vs Canelo showdown would be attractive for most boxing fans, some believe the American should take on other fighters first, like Ortiz Jr. himself, Sebastian Fundora, Tim Tszyu, and Bohachuk before trying to move up to 168 lbs.
As for Bud, the fight against the Mexican great makes sense. He would earn a title shot at super middleweight and the opportunity of becoming a world champion in a fifth category, as well as a massive payday to face Eddy Reynoso’s best boxer.
