Danton Heinen extension: How much will the Penguins forward make?
The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Danton Heinen for another season after the former Bruins and Ducks forward scored a career-high 18 goals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Danton Heinen to a one-year, $1 million contract on Wednesday, general manager Ron Hextall announced. Heinen, who joined the Penguins from the Anaheim Ducks a year ago on a one-year, $1.1m deal, registered 33 points (18 goals, a career-high single season tally, and 15 assists) in 76 games in his first season with Pittsburgh in 2021-22.
Heinen, Penguins looking for Stanley Cup success
The right wing added three goals in seven games during a first-round loss to the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and added three power-play goals during the season, matching his career best total from the 2019-20 season while at Boston. The Penguins have not won the Stanley Cup since the 2016-17 season but were divisional champions in 2020-21.
Overall the 27-year-old has 40 career Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.
Heinen has 154 points (62 goals, 92 assists) in 348 career games with the Boston Bruins (2016-20), Anaheim Ducks (2020-21) and Penguins. Boston drafted him in the fourth round with the 116th overall pick in 2014 before sending him to play collegiate hockey at the University of Denver from 2014-16 where he was named NCHC Rookie of the Year in the 2014–15 season and NCHC Forward of the Year in the 2015–16 season.
