Estados Unidos Update:

Ryan García (24-1, 20 KOs), who is set to face Rolly Romero in Times Square this Friday, is one of only two boxers to have fought both Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs), making him a credible voice in determining who the better fighter is.

A few months ago, ‘King Ry’ appeared on the PBD podcast, hosted by Patrick Bet-David, and stated that the fight against Haney was more difficult than the one against Davis, since he was weakened when he faced ‘Tank.’

“Haney caught me, Gervonta I didn’t really [feel anything]. It wasn’t a hard fight I was just weak,” said García. “It’s not a hard fight for me. You guys can pull up the picture of me how I looked for Tank and how I looked for Haney. I would beat Gervonta Davis worse than I beat Devin Haney. Haney is a harder fight than Gervonta.”

‘King Ry’ was knocked out by ‘Tank’ Davis in the seventh round of their fight in April 2023. His fight with Haney was controversial, as García won by majority decision after knocking down ‘The Dream’ in rounds 7, 10, and 11. However, the result was later changed to a no contest after the Mexican-American tested positive for ostarine and received a one-year suspension.

The other boxer who has faced both Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney

Aside from García, only one other boxer has fought both Davis and Haney: Cuban fighter Yuriorkis Gamboa. ‘The Cyclone of Guantánamo’ faced both Americans in back-to-back fights between 2019 and 2020.

His fight with Davis took place on December 28, 2019, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Cuban was knocked down three times—once in the second round, again in the eighth, and finally in the 12th.

Gamboa managed to go the distance against Haney, but the judges scored the fight clearly in Haney’s favor. Two judges scored it 120-107, and the third 118-109. The bout was for the WBC lightweight title.
