Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros announces his re-candidacy for SIGA Global CEO for the 2026–2030

Update:

As the Sport Integrity Global Alliance formally opens its 2026 electoral process, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros has announced his re-candidacy for the position of SIGA Global Chief Executive Officer for the 2026–2030 term, in accordance with the organisation’s Constitution.

A co-founder of SIGA and its current Global CEO, Macedo de Medeiros confirmed his intention to seek what would be a third and final mandate, following previous elections by unanimity and acclamation in 2018 and 2022.

SIGA opens a closely governed 2026 electoral process

The 2026 elections will determine not only the appointment of the Global CEO but also the election of members to SIGA’s Ethics Committee and Audit and Compliance Committee. The process is governed by SIGA’s Constitution and Electoral Regulations and is overseen by an Ad Hoc Electoral Committee tasked with ensuring independence, transparency, and the proper conduct of the elections.

SIGA has confirmed that the deadline for submitting candidacies is 11 March. The SIGA Council vote will take place on 16 March, followed by the convening of the SIGA General Assembly on 26 March to ratify the results.

Two-stage vote underlines the strategic weight of the CEO role

Under SIGA’s governance framework, the Global CEO is elected through a two-stage process. The SIGA Council first votes on the candidacy, after which the result must be submitted to the General Assembly for ratification by a qualified two-thirds majority.

According to SIGA, this reinforced majority requirement reflects the strategic importance of the role and is designed to ensure that the appointment commands broad support across the organisation’s global membership.

“Delivery, accountability, and decisive action”

In a video message accompanying his announcement, Macedo de Medeiros framed his re-candidacy around what he described as delivery, accountability, and decisive action in advancing sport integrity worldwide.

He argued that many of the challenges facing global sport arise from choices made or choices avoided, and that lasting reform depends on embedding integrity at the core of governance structures and organisational culture.

Positioning SIGA as a global platform for commitment, credibility, and measurable results, he presented his candidacy as a pledge to deliver SIGA’s reform agenda, strengthen transparency and accountability, and establish lasting standards of integrity across the sport ecosystem.

He also called on sports bodies, governments, international organisations, global business, and civil society to assume shared responsibility in fostering a culture of integrity and accountability in sport.

If confirmed for the 2026–2030 term, the mandate would be Macedo de Medeiros’ third and final term as SIGA Global CEO, in line with the organisation’s constitutional framework.

SIGA has made the full video message accompanying his announcement available through its official channels.
