Final round at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship: Round 4 Sunday tee times and pairings
Hideki Matsuyama has opened up a five-shot lead before the final round of the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama took control of the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind on Saturday and will go into Sunday’s final round with a five-shot lead over second-placed Nick Dunlap. World no. 1 Scottie Scheffler is two strokes further back as he chases a seventh PGA Tour title of the season.
In round three, Matsuyama fired a second successive 6-under par 64, the lowest round of the day. With an opening 65 also under his belt, the Japanese star ended Saturday on -17, which gives him a handsome lead.
Dunlap (-12) and Viktor Hovland, third on -11, were among the five players to shoot third-round 65s, which just about keeps them in contention going into Sunday’s final round.
Scheffler’s 69 on Saturday leaves him seven shots adrift of Matsuyama and with serious work to do, while world no. 2 Xander Schauffele, who won two majors in 2024, is nine back and, in theory, out of contention. Rory McIlroy’s struggles continued, with his 4-over par 74 meaning he is 5-over for the tournament and in joint 66th place out of 70.
Why there was no cut in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship
As only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings are taking part in the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, there was no cut at the end of the second round on Friday.
After the conclusion of the event, the top 50 will move on to next week’s BMW Championship, which is followed by the season-ending Tour Championship, where the field will be narrowed down to 30.

2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship prize money
The fact that this is the first tournament in the FedEx Cup playoffs means the prize purse is significant, with a total of $20m. As for the winner, they will walk away with a healthy sum of $3,600,000. Since there are only 70 players in the field, everyone involved will pocket a portion of the huge purse, with the player in last place netting a tidy $40,000.
