Update:

Elite bodybuilding can push the human body to its absolute limit — especially for true legends of the discipline like CBum. The six-time Mr. Olympia champion, the most prestigious title in bodybuilding, has earned comparisons to icons such as Arnold Schwarzenegger after years of dominance on stage.

Even with his extraordinary physique and a lifestyle far more disciplined than the average person’s, Chris Bumstead hasn’t escaped criticism after posting a recent video of his current condition. In the clip, the retired bodybuilder appears shirtless, showing a “less defined” torso compared to the sculpted form fans were used to seeing during competition.

The bodybuilding legend decided to retire after leaving a historic mark on the sport, and many are still struggling to process the void he left behind. Just a few days ago, Chris responded with an Instagram post captioned: Not actually training for the Mr. Olympia but I can still act like it.”

The farewell of a legend

Chris Bumstead, six-time Classic Physique champion and one of the defining figures of modern bodybuilding, closed his career after his Open debut in Prague, where he surprised fans by finishing second.

The Canadian wanted to give himself — and his followers — a true “last dance” on stage, proving that he could hold his own against mass monsters like Martin Fitzwater and Shaun Clarida, even while carrying less muscle.

But beyond trophies and accolades, his decision came down to something simpler: he no longer wanted to be tied to the extreme discipline of bodybuilding diets. Can’t lie the pumps were funnn, but getting back on diet was not,” CBum admitted, explaining that he prefers to keep the memories of nerves, excitement, and passion for the sport rather than prolong a sacrifice he no longer enjoys.

“I’m trying to redefine what it means to be hybrid”

Even after leaving bodybuilding behind, an athlete like CBum is always chasing excellence. That’s why the Canadian is now setting his sights on a new field where he hopes to make history again: hybrid bodybuilding.

All these little marathon runners doing Hyrox workouts, like ‘I’m hybrid!’ I’m like, ‘Let me show you,” Chris said months ago, making it clear that his future is far from traditional bodybuilding — but will always stay close to fitness.
