Controversy looms over boxing again. American boxer Gervonta Davis was arrested Tuesday in Parkland, Florida, and jailed on a domestic violence charge of battery causing bodily harm, according to jail records.

The undefeated boxer remains in custody at Broward County in Fort Lauderdale and is expected to appear at a court hearing Wednesday at 8 am, with no bond set for a release. Details of his arrest and the allegations against him have not yet been made available.

The events happened a few days before Davis’ PPV bout against Hector Luis Garcia on Jan. 7, which is seen as a ‘tune-up’ fight ahead of the much-anticipated April 25 clash against boxing rising star Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.

Defeated outside the ring

Tank, a multiple world champion in three different weight classes, is no stranger to problems outside the ring.

He is scheduled to appear in Baltimore Circuit Court on February 16 for his alleged involvement in an unrelated hit-and-run incident in November 2020, according to court records.

The fighter is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident involving four people. He is facing 14 charges, including failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury.

Davis previously faced two misdemeanor battery charges following an incident where a video allegedly showed him grabbing his former girlfriend by the throat at a charity basketball game in February 2020.
