A capacity crowd is expected at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday as Gervonta Davis defends his WBA lightweight championship title in the top billing bout against Frank Martin.

Gervonta Davis eyeing 30th career win

The fight has generated great expectation among boxing fans - both the Tank and the man who will be attempting to steal his crown remain undefeated. Davis has not lost in 29 pro fights, winning 27 of them by KO and looked as formidable as ever in his most recent outing: a seventh-round victory over Ryan Garcia at T-Mobile Arena in April last year. He’s been out of the ring since then, spending much of last year dealing with a court case in which he was handed several charges including a hit-and-run incident which left four people seriously injured.

Frank Martin’s fighting talk

Martin meanwhile has been gearing up for his first title attempt. He holds an impressive 18-0 record including 12 knockouts, but his lack of experience at this level might be a decisive factor and some pundits think the fight might not even go to six rounds.

Nicknamed The Ghost, Martin is Davis’ toughest opponent to date - at least on paper. He was in bellicose mood in the pre-fight press conference, telling reporters: ”I appreciate Tank giving me this opportunity to come and whip his ass. I’m coming different - when they say push some buttons, I’m gonna push every button that he’s got on his ass - every one!”

Whoever wins this evening’s fight is guaranteed a cash prize of $2 million but there is also a percentage cut from the PPV sale for both boxers. If victorious, Davis stands to rake in a total of around $10 million, corresponding to the 70% of PPV sale in his contract. He earned a similar amount from his last fight against Ryan Garcia.

Martin on the other hand is expected to make a total of $1.5 million in revenue - a breakdown includes $500,000 of his base salary plus a 30% cut of the PPV sales.

The WBA lightweight championship title fight takes place on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas at 11 p.m. EDT/8 p.m. PDT. The fight will headline the Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view event and will be streamed live on Amazon Prime PPV.
