Update:

Ilia Topuria is about to make his long-awaited return to the cage after eight long months. The Spanish-Georgian fighter will take on Charles Oliveira (35-10-0) for the UFC Lightweight title - the main event at UFC 317 which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 28.

Topuria vacates title to fight for new belt

El Matador’s last fight was back in October 2024 when he successfully defended his Featherweight championship at UFC 308, knocking out Max Holloway with a superb left hook that sent the American sprawling to the deck. Topuria vacated the title in February after revealing his intention to move up to the Lightweight division permanently.

And he has the opportunity to make an immediate impact in his very first fight at the new weight. The Lightweight title will be vacated in similar circumstances by current champion Islam Makhachev, set to switch to Welterweight. Either Topuria or Oliveira, who held the title for nearly a year before losing to Makhachev in October 2022, will become the new champion.

How much will Topuria and Oliveria make at UFC 317?

Topuria vs Oliveira headlines UFC 317 and, as such, is expected to offer significant cash incentives to both fighters. However, earnings from fights regularly tend to come to light afterwards, with no figures having been officially confirmed.

We can get a rough idea of what to expect, however, from the competitors’ recent fights.

According to MMA Salaries, Topuria made a whopping $3,992,000 from his title defence against Holloway, which was $3.5 million more than his previous fight against Alexander Volkanovski in February 2024.

Oliveira, meanwhile, picked up $1,071,000 from his victory against Michael Chandler in November last year, the fifth time he has earned more than seven figures from a UFC fight. The Brazilian’s highest figure to date is the $1,757,000 he received in his aforementioned defeat to Makhachev.

With the belt on the line, expect the money on offer to match, if not surpass, those previous highs. A win on in Las Vegas could not only secure championship gold but also cement their status as one of the UFC’s biggest draws and open the door to even more lucrative opportunities in the future.
