Japanese Tomoru Honda set a new world record for the Men’s 200m butterfly in the short course by winning the final of that event at the 64th Japan Short Course Swimming Championships today with a time of 1:46.85. Honda, a silver medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics, knocked 1.39 off the the previous world best time 1:48.24, held by team mate Daiya Seto at the FINA Short Course World Championships in December 2018.

Honda’s record-breaking performance allowed him to finish ahead of second-placed Teppei Morimoto by 3.67 seconds.
