How much does it cost to enter the World Series of Poker? Can anyone sign up?

The largest and most popular poker event of the year, the World Series of Poker, will be in full swing in Las Vegas, with thousands of players taking part in Gold Bracelet Events since early June.

The competition is being held at the Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos for the second time after taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in 2005. Bally’s being officially renamed as Horseshoe Las Vegas later this month. The Horseshoe name has a rich historical significance. It was the annual venue for the WSOP tournament from 1970 to 2004, hosted by the tournament’s founder, Benny Binion, at his Horseshoe Casino.

The two casinos are connected, and players can shuttle between them to sit at any of the 600 tables spread out on 150,000 square feet of floor space.

What exactly do you need to be able to participate in this poker paradise?

You don’t have to be a high roller to enjoy the festivities. There are many tournaments to choose from, and the only limitation you would face in terms of joining them would be your budgetary constraints.

Each event has its buy-in, with the lowest one being relatively affordable- that’s the $400 Colossus. The highlight of the whole tournament (as the name implies) is the Main Event, with a buy-in of $10,000. The contest which needs the highest amount to enter this year is the Super High Roller at $250,000.

The WSOP is democratic in the sense that anyone can join the tournament. All you need is to be of legal age (21 years) and to have the money for the buy-in.

The thrill of not knowing who will be at the final table is part of the draw of the WSOP. Since anyone can sign up for the games, the winners could be seasoned professionals or lucky novices. You could even find yourself sharing a table with poker-playing celebrities.
