Update:

Aaron Rai is your 2026 PGA Championship after shooting a final round 65 to finish -9 on the weekend. It’s the first career major for Rai, and on top of lifting the Wannamaker Trophy, he will receive the biggest payout of his career.

Rai rises above the pack

There was a final day field of about 20 or 30 players that had a chance at winning the tournament heading into Sunday. It was Rai who outlasted the rest of the pack to win the second major of the PGA season and take home the whopping $3.7 million cash prize that comes along with being named the PGA Champion.

There was a record setting purse of $20.5 million up for grabs over the four days from Aronimink Golf Club, which situated right outside of Philadelphia. The record setting purse came from a 1.5 million dollar boost from the PGA of America this year.

There were 82 players that made the cut into the weekend, and the player that came in 82nd went home with $23,900. Those who missed the cut got a $4,300 stipend for their participation in the first two days from Newtown Square.

Rai ends U.S. streak in PGA

Rai came into Sunday trailing Alex Smalley by two shots. The leader after 54 holes finished the final round 70, and ended three strokes back of Rai. The Wombourne, England native pulled away from the rest of the chasers in the final few holes of the fourth round and had a comfortable run in to the club house. The day was capped by an impossible 68 foot putt on 17 that Rai sank to go up three strokes on closest competitor, John Rahm.

The 2026 PGA Champion had won three European Tour trophies, but won just once on the PGA Tour. That came in 2024 when he won Wyndham Championship from Greensboro, North Carolina. With the win from Pennsylvania on Sunday, Rai became the first Englishman in the stroke play era to win the PGA Championship.

Last year’s winner, Scottie Scheffler, won the Wannamaker in a tournament that carried a purse of 19 million from Quail Hallow. Scheffler finished tied for 14th from Aronimink. Masters winner, Rory McIlroy who took home $4.5 million at Augusta this year, ended Sunday at -4 and tied for 6th. The win ends a 10 year reign of U.S. born players that have won the PGA Championship.
