Ahead of the 124th U.S. Open, news of the prize pot was announced by Mike Whan, CEO of the USGA. Players and fans were likely unsurprised, given the continued rivalry between the PGA Tour and that of LIV Golf, that the amount on offer had increased on last year. But we were to learn that the competition would be fighting it out for the biggest financial prize in major golf history, and the obvious prestige that comes with it.

What will the 2024 U.S. Open winner get?

This year’s U.S. Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau, will get a check for $4.3 million, which is up significantly on last year’s $3.6 million. The overall pot is a very tasty $21.5 million and here’s how that breaks down across the field:

What else does the U.S. Open winner receive?

As well as the top financial prize, the champion receives a replica of the trophy to take home, as the original remains in the USGA Museum in New Jersey. He is also be awarded the Jack Nicklaus Medal, a prestigious gold medal presented to the US Open winner since 1895. Originally without a name, the medal was christened the Jack Nicklaus Medal in 2012, paying tribute to the legendary golfer who has won 18 major championships and is one of only four players to claim the US Open title four times.

In addition to the medal, the champion of the US Open enjoys significant benefits. They earn a guaranteed spot in the next 10 US Open tournaments and automatic entries into the next five editions of The Open, The Masters, and the PGA Championship.

The winner also receives a five-year exemption for The Players Championship and secures a PGA Tour card for the same duration. Additionally, they gain invitations to the US Senior Open for five years and to the Senior Open and Senior PGA Championship.
