Japan’s Miyū Yamashita has won the 2025 AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, keeping her nerve on the back nine of Sunday’s final round to see off the challenge of Charley Hull.
Yamashita wins first major at 2025 AIG Open
After leading by three shots, Yamashita saw Hull move to within just a stroke at one stage. However, the English star dropped shots at the 16th and 17th to give Yamashita some breathing space going into her final few holes.
The 24-year-old Japanese ultimately carded a 2-under-par 70 to win her first ever major by two shots from Hull, and Minami Katsu, also of Japan.
Yamashita’s previous best in a major tournament came at last year’s Women’s PGA Championship, when she tied for second. She has won 13 times on the LPGA of Japan Tour but had never been victorious on the LPGA Tour until now.
Megan Khang (T6) and Andrea Lee (T11) were the best-placed Americans, with world No. 1 Nelly Korda finishing in a tie for 36th.

A record amount of prize money was on offer this week at Royal Porthcawl. The total purse for the tournament stood at $9.75 million, three times as much as was on offer at the Women’s Open seven years ago, and an increase of $250,000 from 12 months ago.
Of that figure, winner Yamashita takes home $1,462,500, by far the largest amount in the event’s 49-year history.
