The first major of the year is well underway in Georgia with the biggest prize on the line in the event’s 88-year history.

In a bid to compete with LIV Golf, the PGA are increasing the prize money across their high profile events with the 2024 Masters being a case in point.

The increased purse (from 2023′s 18 to the current 20 million dollars) means the PGA event is now equal to the total purses offered at LIV Golf events (those are $25 million, but $20 million for the individual portion), and the PGA Tour’s Signature Events, which have increased to $20 million.

The past three years increases see a bump from the $15 million in 2022, $18 million prize-money the Masters offered in 2023 and an overall 66-percent increase in just three years.

The winner of the 2024 Masters is in line for a windfall of $3.6 million and as Saturday’s action unfolds in Georgia, current leaders Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa and Bryson DeChambeau will be hoping that, as well as donning the famous green jacket come Sunday night, their bank balances will be enhanced by the handsome purse on the line at the Augusta National Golf Club.
