The PGA Tour schedule continues this week with a trip to St. Simons Island, Georgia for the 2024 RSM Classic.

Introduced in 2010, initially as the McGladrey Classic, the tournament was renamed as part of a sponsorship deal with accountancy firm RSM US. The RSM Classic brings together 156 players to compete for a substantial prize purse of $8 million.

Last year’s winner Ludvig Aberg bagged a top prize of $1,512,000 but that figure is actually slightly lower in 2024. This year, the winner will take home $1,440,000.

“Last couple weeks I’ve been itching to get out here,” Aberg said ahead of this year’s tournament. “It’s been a long time coming it feels like.”

Who is the favourite for the 2024 RSM Classic?

Defending champion Aberg is definitely the man to watch going into this year’s tournament after an astonishing performance in 2023. The Swede dropped a tournament record 29-under last year.

The current world No. 5 is returning to the Tour for his first start since undergoing surgery on his left knee back in September.

“I felt early in the year this must have been somewhere around April, May, something like that it started to act up a little bit,” he explained recently. “I didn’t really know what it was. We got it checked out and then I still felt fine, so it didn’t hinder me in terms of my training or my play.”

However after feeling the condition worsen over the season he opted to get surgery early in the fall and insists that he now feels ready to compete for the top prize once again. “I feel 100 percent, otherwise I wouldn’t be here,” Aberg said.
