Serena Williams’ impending retirement signals the end of an era, and the US Open would be the last time fans will get to see the tennis great in action.

Ticket sales immediately soared following the announcement that she would be hanging up her racket after the Grand Slam event- a clear testament to Williams’ celebrity. There has been an unprecedented number of tickets sold, and record-setting admission prices as well.

Williams’ last run at the US Open takes her full circle as this was the first Grand Slam title she ever won, back when she was a 17-year-old. Now 40, her home court would be the perfect stage to say goodbye to the sport where she shattered records, blazed trails, and broke through barriers.
