Ilia Topuria stands alone as the UFC’s only undefeated champion after Khamzat Chimaev’s fall
Following Khamzat Chimaev’s defeat to Sean Strickland this past weekend, the Spanish-Georgian is the only champion who has yet to lose.
At UFC 328 in Newark last weekend, Sean Strickland ended the short-lived reign of Khamzat Chimaev — and shattered his undefeated record in the process. Chimaev entered his first title defense at 15‑0, but a strangely flat performance, with none of his trademark takedowns and limited striking, opened the door for Strickland to reclaim the middleweight belt.
And with that upset, Ilia Topuria is now the only undefeated champion in the entire UFC, boasting a spotless 17‑0 record. Every other titleholder has tasted defeat at least once.
How the rest of the UFC champions stack up
Here’s how the current champions compare, starting with the most losses:
- Sean Strickland — 31 wins, 7 losses
- Mackenzie Dern (strawweight) — 16‑5
- Petr Yan (bantamweight) — 20‑5
- Alexander Volkanovski (featherweight) — 28‑4
- Valentina Shevchenko (flyweight) — 26‑4‑1
- Tom Aspinall (heavyweight) — 15‑3
- Joshua Van (flyweight) — 17‑2
- Islam Makhachev (welterweight) — 1 loss
- Carlos Ulberg (light heavyweight) — 1 loss
- Kayla Harrison (bantamweight) — 1 loss
With Chimaev no longer unbeaten, Topuria stands alone — the last champion with a perfect record. In a sport where almost no one reaches the top without setbacks, that’s a massive achievement.
Topuria risks his perfect record in the biggest UFC event ever
The Spanish‑Georgian star will put both his undefeated streak and his lightweight belt on the line on June 14 at 10 p.m. ET, when he faces interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC Casa Blanca — billed as the biggest event in company history, part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
Topuria enters as the heavy favorite, and if he wins, his unbeaten run could stretch on for a long time.
