Ilia Topuria wins biggest battle yet: “My daughter is my priority”
MMA star Topuria faces off with his soon-to-be ex-wife over their 18-month-old daughter in a high-stakes court battle.

On Wednesday, January 7, MMA star Ilia Topuria appeared in a court in Móstoles, Spain, to give a statement regarding custody of his 18-month-old daughter. His soon-to-be ex-wife, Giorgina Uzcategui, also appeared in court. The judge rejected her request to take the child to the United States, according to sources confirmed by AS.
“I’ll see my daughter very soon”
Before entering the courtroom, Topuria told reporters, “I’ll see my daughter very soon, so I’m not stressed at all. I’m very calm. My priority is my daughter, my kids, my family.”

Divorce and allegations
Last summer, Topuria filed for divorce, and just three weeks later, Giorgina reportedly accused him of alleged abuse. The Spanish-Georgian fighter explained in a statement that he refused to comply with what he described as her increasingly high financial demands.
In recent months, Topuria said he was enduring “intolerable pressure, including threats to spread false abuse claims that would only disappear if money was paid.” After Wednesday’s hearing, he left the court in good spirits, telling reporters, “Everything went perfectly.”
Judge refuses Miami request
The judge denied Uzcategui’s request to take their daughter to Miami, citing her own safety concerns after receiving threats following Topuria’s public statement. The mother had already purchased plane tickets 12 days prior. The child cannot leave Spain without the judge’s explicit authorization.
Topuria speaks out after hearing
The session took place at the Móstoles Court for Violence Against Women No. 1, as prior abuse claims fall under this jurisdiction. Topuria released a statement addressing the media attention, saying, “Anyone who knows me knows I’ve always dedicated myself to this sport and my work responsibly, avoiding anything that could harm my reputation or that of my country. This media attack, built on malicious information and spread irresponsibly by misleading headlines, has caused me the most harm.”
He added, “I ask for understanding, as well as the same respect and fairness that most media have shown me. The truth has only one path. God bless.”
The hearing was held behind closed doors, with only the lawyers, judge, prosecutor, and the parties present. Security escorted both parents due to the large crowd of journalists outside the courthouse.
