John Deere Classic preview: How to watch, who to watch, the course and prize money
Lucas Glover, who won his first PGA Tour title in 10 years with last year’s victory, will be hoping to become the first back-to-back winner since Steve Stricker.
The 51st edition of the John Deere Classic will take place at TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Illinois over the next four days.
There are some intriguing names teeing it up at TPC Deere Run. Among them is champion Lucas Glover, who won his first PGA Tour title in 10 years with last year’s victory.
Glover will be hoping to become the first back-to-back winner since Steve Stricker won three in a row from 2009 to 2011.
Denny McCarthy, who finished in a tie for 7th at this year’s US Open at The Country Club is one to watch this weekend.
Adam Hadwin also tied for 7th at the US Open, five shots back of Matt Fitzpatrick’s winning total, and is another player to keep an eye on.
The course
TPC Deere Run is a par 71 that tips at 7,289 yards. Its 21 additional yards from how it routed since 2007 is due to a new tee on the par-4 first hole that now reaches 416 yards.
Tournament favourite
Webb Simpson is the highest-ranked player in the field and is the favourite to lift the trophy on Sunday. The 36-year-old will be aiming to live up to expectations and claim his first win since the summer of 2020, when he won the RBC Heritage.
Prize money
Players will be competing for a $7.1 million purse, an increase of $900,000 from last year. This year’s winner will earn $1.278m with the runner-up netting $773,900.
